Nevada County, Nevada City schools talk budget cuts

It’s not just the high schools that are hurting.

Following a week in which the Pleasant Ridge Union School District consolidated three of its elementary campuses into two, the Nevada County Superintendent of Schools Office is hosting a workshop on school organization next week.

In addition, Nevada City School District officials will discuss budget cuts Tuesday.

From 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, county Superintendent of Schools Holly Hermansen will host a workshop for school board members, superintendents and the public.

The meeting, presented by Larry Shirey of the California Department of Education, will focus on the legal and local aspects regarding consolidations, unifications and other issues. The meeting will be held at the Superintendent of Schools office at 112 Nevada City Highway, Nevada City.

The Nevada City School District will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, to discuss budget reductions for the upcoming school year.

Also on the agenda is an update on the Deer Creek Modernization Project.

The meeting is at Nevada City School District Administrative Offices, 800 Hoover Lane.
