Nevada County native Ashleigh Dejon competes for $1,000,000 on America’s Got Talent

Flip on the television Tuesday evening, and you’re likely to see a Nevada County native suspended 30 feet in the air doing an acrobatic dance routine.

Ashleigh Dejon, 29, is competing for $1 million on the NBC show America’s Got Talent. She and her partner Michael Lipari are in the top 24 competitors and are vying for a spot in the top 10.

“She’s trying to break into Hollywood,” said Natina Pistone, Dejon’s stepmother. “This is the biggest thing she’s done yet.”

Dejon spent much of her younger years with her mother in Southern California, but spent summers and holidays in Nevada County. Pistone, a dance instructor at Grass Valley’s Center Stage Dance Studio, was impressed from the start.

“When I first taught her how to do a back handspring, I knew she’d be great at physical dance,” Pistone said.

Dejon’s act on the show is called “aerial,” a genre of lyrical dance that uses ropes and trapezes to create a flying effect.

She also has auditioned to dance in Las Vegas shows.

Pistone will be down in Los Angeles for the taping of the show, which airs at 9 p.m. Tuesday on NBC. She encourages readers to watch the show and vote for the duo so they will advance to the finals.
