Nevada County gyms reopen refurbished

Each year, the South Yuba Club in Nevada City and Monster Gym in Grass Valley recently close to clean and refurbish the clubs.

The clubs reopened Aug. 21.

“This year, we wanted to invest in the future of the clubs, our members and our community,” owner Phil Carville said.

Changes included installing a new spa – “bright, fresh and clean,” Carville said.

Other improvements include repainting locker rooms and large areas of the club, refinishing the hardwood floors of the group exercise room “and generally made the facility better,” Carville said. “It is quite an investment.”

About 25 staff have been involved in the cleaning this week, Carville added. His son, Mike Carville, works with him in the business.

The South Yuba Club is at 555 Searls Ave., in the Seven Hills District of Nevada City, (530) 470-9100; Monster Gym is at 722 Freeman Lane, Grass Valley, (530) 272-7676.
