Firefighters on Wednesday afternoon battled a blaze near Bitney Springs Road and Starduster Drive that spanned between 5 to 6 acres filled with vegetation and some residential homes, officials said.

Cal Fire responded around 1:40 p.m. to the fire, about 10 miles west of Nevada City. Initial, unconfirmed reports showed some buildings could have been in danger, though there were no reports of any structural damage or injuries, said fire Capt. Scott Eckman.

“The fire isn’t getting any larger,” said Kayla Burke, a communications operator, at 4 p.m. “It’s going to stay at its current size.”

Burke estimated firefighters would remain on the scene until 9 p.m. Wednesday.

Several fire districts responded to assist Cal Fire. An air attack and an air tanker also assisted in fighting the blaze.

The cause of the fire was unknown as of press time Wednesday.
