The Nevada County Democrats held a democratic debate viewing at Margarita’s restaurant Oct. 13.

Most attendees were agreed that it was success on many levels. All left feeling connected, compassionate and unified, having enjoyed a good meal and a stimulating debate.

This was seen as a refreshing, informative and civilized debate between progressive colleagues who treated each other with respect even when they disagreed on many issues such as guns, the Iraq war and socialism. Most were relieved that the candidates were spontaneous and avoided providing canned responses. They welcomed a debate atmosphere that was cordial with room for good humor. Bernie Sanders brought the house down when he said, “The American people are tired of hearing about your damn emails, Hillary.” Attendees welcomed the opportunity to find out more about all five Democratic presidential candidates. Most felt that Jim Webb and Lincoln Chaffee were not as impressive as Martin O’Malley but none out shined the two stars in the polls: Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders.
