Nevada County Consolidated firefighters take on Tough Mudder

On Sept. 22, a five-member team representing the Nevada County Consolidated Fire District participated in the Tough Mudder Competition in Northstar, Calif.

Tough Mudder events are 10-12 mile obstacle courses designed by British Special Forces to test your all-around strength, stamina, mental grit, and camaraderie. Tough Mudder Events have raised more than $3 million for the Wounded Warrior Project.

The Consolidated team — Captain Josh Sunde, Engineer Catherine Sullivan, Firefighter Phillip Nunnink, Firefighter Matt Schaake and Firefighter Alex Bertolli — completed the course in 2 hours and 35 minutes, ranking in the top 5 percent finishers in the world.
