Nevada City to respond to fines for wastewater treatment plant

Nevada City councilmembers are expected tonight to respond to the California Regional Water Quality Control Board for a notice asking the city to pay penalties of $69,000 for wastewater treatement plant violations.

The violations and penalty amount cover a period of time from January 1, 2000 until April 30, 2008, according to a letter from the regional water quality control board.

The city is being asked to respond to the fines by Sept. 17, and is expected to take up the matter at tonight’s council meeting, which begins at 7 p.m, following a joint City Council/planning commission session
