NC ‘Residents Initiative’ supporters submit petitions to city

On Friday, Nevada City Neighbors submitted its proposed ballot initiative petition to regulate short-term vacation rentals in Nevada City. The group gathered 305 signatures in 12 days; 211 are needed to place it on the June ballot.

The Residents Initiative would strictly regulate AirBnB short-term rentals and continue to prohibit whole-house vacation rentals in Nevada City’s residential neighborhoods.

The Residents’ Initiative is an alternative to the Nevada City Hosts Initiative.

The Resident’s Initiative distinguishes itself in that it would:

— Permit short-term rental of up to 2 bedrooms, but specifically prohibits entire house vacation rentals.

— Require owners to be in residence when lodging rooms are rented.

— Require off street parking.

— Create an enforcement fee and program to ensure that neighborhood concerns are followed up on.

— Not allow lodgers to hold special events.
