Nevada City man hit, killed by plumbing van in Marin

An unidentified 38-year-old Napa man was driving a van that collided with a Nevada City man walking in front of the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael, killing the pedestrian, police said.

San Rafael police identified the man who was struck and killed by a Dodge van near the Civic Center Friday morning as 79-year-old Jurgen Traub.

Traub was hit by a plumbing company’s van at the intersection of Civic Center and Peter Behr drives around 9:40 a.m., police spokeswoman Margo Rohrbacher said.

Traub formerly lived in Greenbrae and was visiting friends in the area, Rohrbacher said. He was crossing the street toward a farmer’s market when he was struck by the Dodge van driving south on Civic Center Drive, Rohrbacher said.

The van driver stopped immediately and cooperated with the investigation, Rohrbacher said.

The farmer’s market is open on Thursday and Sunday mornings. It was very busy at the time of the accident, Rohrbacher said.
