Nevada City Church to host craft faire

Methodist church holds annual Craft Faire

The iconic Nevada City United Methodist Church is set to hold its annual Craft Faire and Sandwiche Shoppe.

The event, which begins 10 a.m. today and runs through the weekend, ending at 4 p.m. each day, features hundreds of handcrafted gifts and goodies tailored to all ages and ilks, said Christine Barnes, church spokeswoman.

The church, perched atop Broad Street, is an architectural icon for Nevada City and was featured in the Hallmark movie “The Christmas Card.”

“Often … visitors tell us they know the church from the movie,” Barnes said.

The craft faire, which the church has been hosting for more than a decade, is a principal fund raiser for the religious institution.

The church uses the money gathered to perform various ministries, along with community outreach, donations to the community food bank and the homeless shelter.

“We work all year on this craft faire,” Barnes said.

“So, it’s a big deal.”

The church will also make available homemade soup, sandwiches, pies, coffee and hot cider.
