Nevada City board may investigate elementary school closures

Nevada City School District may establish a committee to decide whether to close Gold Run or Nevada City elementary school.

District trustees are considering a school closure and slicing as many as 16 full-time-equivalent positions to ax $1 million from their $9 million budget for 2010-11.

Closure, increasing class sizes and other ways to cut costs are on the agenda for a special board meeting set for 5 p.m. today, March 3, at the Seven Hills Middle School library, 700 Hoover Lane in Nevada City.

Board members will also discuss other budget cuts, including layoffs and administrative reductions.
