Nevada City awards road-improvement contract

Nevada City residents could see transportation sales tax funds in action later this week when Central Valley Paving of Roseville begins resurfacing Lindley Avenue and Doane Road.

The city recently awarded the Roseville company a $302,000 contract to work on numerous improvement projects for this year.

The street resurfacing plan for Lindley Avenue and Doane Road head the list of projects slated for this year.

Some of the other improvements include: Coyote Street from Dean Alley to Highway 49; B Street from Uren to Nevada streets; and Willow Valley Road from Nevada Street to the city limit.

More than 80 percent of city voters passed the half-cent sales tax in November to pay for the improvements.

The city expects between $350,000 and $400,000 in transportation sales tax funds this year, according to a city press release.

Collection of the sales tax money began April 1 with a sunset in 16 years, but city officials said they hope to finish the work in seven years. The tax is projected to bring in $7.2 million during its life span.
