Neff sells yoga studio to Bikram teacher

Helen Neff has sold Bikram Yoga Grass Valley/Nevada City to Kelly Schrader, a certified Bikram yoga teacher and integrative nutritional counselor.

A native of Northern California, Schrader graduated from the University of Oregon with degrees in journalism and allied art and architecture with a minor in business.

She attended Bikram Yoga Teacher Training in spring 2003, and has been teaching ever since her graduation. She gained valuable business experience working in Boston as an account manager for an advertising agency and as director of organizational development for a law firm.

Schrader returned to school in 2006 to earn an accreditation as a holistic health counselor from Columbia University and then founded, and still directs, EVOLVE, a holistic health counseling practice.

While developing her counseling practice, Schrader has also managed the Bikram Yoga Studios in Truckee (2007 to 2009) and Elk Grove (2009 to 2010), giving her hands-on experience in all areas of operating a Bikram yoga studio.

“It is with a full heart, excitement, and humility that I step into this role as the owner and director of Bikram Yoga Grass Valley/Nevada City,” says Schrader. “Ever since completing the Bikram Yoga Teacher Training, it has been my dream to own a Bikram yoga studio. I was attracted to Bikram Yoga Grass Valley/Nevada City because of the positive community feeling, the wonderful and dedicated clientele, the loyal staff, the business location and studio ambiance.

“I will build on this base to take Bikram Yoga Grass Valley/Nevada City to the next level.”

Over the next few months, Helen Neff will be working very closely with Schrader to guarantee a smooth transition. Neff will continue to teach and give private lessons at Bikram Yoga Grass Valley/Nevada City.

“Kelly brings a wealth of experience with her,” said Neff. “Reviewing our operation with a fresh set of eyes will help all of us of Bikram Yoga Grass Valley/

Nevada City in our yoga practice. I would like to take this opportunity to extend a warm thank you to each and every person who has attended Bikram Yoga classes here in Grass Valley/Nevada City for the last seven years. My life is so much richer, thanks to the wonderful people in our community.”

Bikram yoga is a challenging physical yoga but with many benefits. Besides reshaping the body, restoring flexibility, and strengthening the spine, the series reduces the risks of sports injuries and diminishes the effects of stress.

Each class consists of 26 postures and two breathing exercises, done in a heated room for 90 minutes. The heat is there for a purpose; it warms the muscles for greater flexibility, flushes toxins from the body, creates a cardiovascular workout, and burns calories.

Bikram Yoga Grass Valley/Nevada City has been open since August, 2003 and is located at 900 Golden Gate Terrace, Suite D in Grass Valley. For more information, call (530) 273-2030 or visit their website at
