NC man airlifted after crash

A 31-year-old Nevada City man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving Sunday after his car drifted off Highway 49, clipped three trees and ejected him onto the roadway, the California Highway Patrol reported.

Officer Troy Marks said John Harrison was traveling northbound on the highway near Crestview Drive at approximately 2:50 a.m. when his Toyota pickup drifted off the freeway onto the shoulder and hit a tree, shearing part of it off. His vehicle then continued on the shoulder and hit two more trees, the last causing the truck to flip, ejecting Harrison through the driver’s window onto the roadway.

Harrison was airlifted to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where a nursing supervisor said he was in critical condition with major head trauma.
