Nat. Semiconductor to cut 500 jobs

SANTA CLARA – Chip-maker National Semiconductor Corp. said Thursday it will cut 500 jobs, or 5 percent of its work force, and sell two divisions in an effort to become profitable.

There was no immediate word on whether the cuts will affect the approximately 40 employees at National Semiconductor’s Grass Valley Design Center at Crown Point Circle. The company said the they mainly will hit manufacturing, sales and marketing operations.



Santa Clara-based National Semiconductor employs 10,000 people worldwide.
