N. San Juan man killed in Hwy. 49 crash

Greg Elliott, 54, a resident of North San Juan, was recently killed in a traffic accident when Lesa Shaffer, 44, another North San Juan resident, ran her 1993 Toyota pickup into Elliott’s 2005 Harley-Davidson on Highway 49, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Elliott was driving his motorcycle southbound on Highway 49 around 4:40 p.m. last Thursday when Shaffer, driving northbound, drifted over the center line and struck him and his motorcycle, the CHP said.

Ellliott was ejected from his motorcycle and succumbed to his injuries at the scene, a CHP report said.

Shaffer was suspected of driving under the influence and had a child passenger in her back seat, the CHP said.

She was arrested on the suspicion of DUI, vehicular manslaughter and child endangerment and booked into the Nevada County Jail, according to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office.
