MY TOP TEN: Stan Shurtz

With the Christmas season upon us, we asked Stan Shurtz, owner of Wolf Mountain Christmas Tree Farm on Lime Kiln Road, to list the top 10 reasons for buying a fresh-cut Christmas tree.

1. It’s more fresh. A lot of people come back and tell me that in February, their tree is still green.

2. It’s more fun. You get to walk around and have a nice day, especially if it’s not raining.

3. It’s more nostalgic. Many people make shopping at a Christmas tree farm a tradition for years.

4. It’s a less hectic, more relaxed atmosphere.

5. You’re buying locally.

6. The smell. “Real Trees Make Scents.”

7. It’s friendly. You get to know your neighbors. I’ve put some of them to work on this farm.

8. It feels more like Christmas to buy one here.

9. You can get lost just looking for a tree.

10. It’s fun for the kids to have a good time.
