MY TOP TEN: Sergio and Yelena Martignago

After 15 years in the restaurant business, Sergio and Yelena Martignago came to Grass Valley three months ago and opened Sergio’s Caffe, a Mill Street eatery specializing in Russian and Italian cuisine.

The Martignago’s top 10 reasons for opening a restaurant in Grass Valley are:

1. The friendly, open-hearted people.

2. It’s a small, friendly and safe community.

3. Nice weather. It reminds Sergio of the climate where he grew up in Mendoza, Argentina.

4. Reasonable real estate prices.

5. Because people in Grass Valley appreciate good, healthy food, which is Yelena’s specialty.

6. A great landlord and supportive business neighbors.

7. We thought our niche would fit in well here – a casual atmosphere with good food.

8. People like good beef in this town, and Sergio is a fan of quality beef.

9. Grass Valley reminds both Yelena and Sergio of home in different but good ways, said Yelena, who grew up in the Ukraine.

10. We like the beauty of nature here and the creative souls of the people.
