Mostajo fails to appear in court

Law enforcement officers will be on the lookout for Laura Mostajo after the Grass Valley woman failed to appear Monday at an arraignment on charges she stole money from the memorial fund of her former brother-in-law, the prosecutor in the case said.

In addition, a new felony charge can be filed against her for failure to appear at the felony arraignment, Nevada County Deputy District Attorney Kathryn Francis said.

Mostajo may also turn herself in, Francis added.

Superior Court Judge Robert Tamietti set her bail at $10,000 Monday.

Mostajo is accused of taking money from a memorial fund she set up for Robby Johnston, her former brother-in-law who died in a car accident on Highway 20 in Penn Valley in January. Mostajo pleaded not guilty to a charge of grand theft in April.
