Michael Moore’s new documentary, “Bowling for Columbine,” a searing look at this country’s gun culture, will show one time only at Nevada Theatre on Oct. 12.

The screening is at 1 p.m. and will benefit the Laura Wilcox Scholarship Fund and the Peace Center of Nevada County.

“Bowling for Columbine” is dedicated in part to Laura Wilcox, one of three county residents killed in the Jan. 10, 2001, shooting spree at the Nevada County mental health facility and Lyon’s Restaurant. At the time of the shooting, Wilcox was 19 and working at the clinic’s front desk during college break.

After the screening, Moore will conduct a question-and-answer period at about 3 p.m. The Nevada Theatre Film Series and KVMR FM are partial underwriters.

“Bowling for Columbine” was selected for competition at the Cannes film festival, the first time in 46 years that a documentary was chosen as one of the 22 films competing at the festival, according to the BBC News in May.

Advance tickets are available through the Peace Center of Nevada County. Nevada Theatre is at 401 Broad St., Nevada City.

Call the Peace Center at 470-9797 for ticket information.
