Millions in disaster funding requested for Northern California

Senator Sam Aanestad (R-Grass Valley) says Governor Schwarzenegger is wasting no time in requesting official federal disaster relief for areas of his Senate District that were hard hit by a series of storms last month, leaving some communities with extensive flood damage. Aanestad says the Governor is requesting emergency funding under the auspices of the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act for the counties of Butte, Colusa, Del Norte, Nevada, Placer, Shasta, Siskiyou, Sutter, Trinity and Yuba.

“Northern California bore the brunt of a series of powerful storms that brought heavy rain to my district during the final two weeks of December,” said Senator Aanestad. “Those storms not only caused extensive flooding and other damage, but they are also linked to the cause of at least one fatal accident in Siskiyou County.”

Senator Aanestad says the official emergency declaration for areas of his district include federal assistance such as Disaster Unemployment Insurance and Crisis Counseling for the counties of Del Norte and Siskiyou. The Governor is also requesting emergency public assistance from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and the Federal Highway Administration for the counties of Butte, Colusa, Del Norte, Nevada, Placer, Siskiyou, Sutter, Trinity and Yuba.

Senator Aanestad says the declaration also includes implementation of the Small Business Administration Disaster Loan Program and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Emergency Loan Program for all affected counties in his 12-county Senate District.

“The Governor is specifically requesting more than $500,000 in disaster assistance for Siskiyou County alone, and another $450,000 for Del Norte County,” said Senator Aanestad. “This federal funding would be used for various types of emergency assistance such as temporary housing, repairs, replacement and other assistance needs.”

In addition, the emergency declaration filed by the Governor requests more than $17 million in various forms of disaster relief funding for the counties of Butte, Colusa, Del Norte, Nevada, Placer, Siskiyou, Sutter, Trinity and Yuba.
