Milder weather in Nevada County for first week of August

The sizzling temperatures that typically characterize August in Nevada County will be more moderate as the fair approaches.

Tuesday can expect a high of 86 degrees, Wednesday a high of 87 and Thursday 88 with upper 80s throughout the weekend, said National Weather Service meteorologist Johnnie Powell, from the Sacramento office.

“There’s a low that’s been sitting off the California coast, which keeps pressure from building up, that is not only pushing in marine air but on a large scale keeps real strong, high pressure from building in,” he said. “We get the hottest temperatures when we get a real strong high-pressure system and no wind.”

The expected temperatures for the fair this year are much milder than last year’s, which soared into the triple digits, The Union previously reported.

“It’s nice, benign, moderate weather,” Powell said. “Enjoy it.”
