Merced principal named as Deetz’s successor as district leader

Ralf Swenson will succeed Maggie Deetz at the helm of the Nevada Joint Union High School district starting July 1.

Swenson, 51, comes from Merced, and has been a principal for 14 years in the high school district there, said Corinne Parilo, vice president of the Nevada Joint Union High School District board of trustees.

“He’s a warm, engaging person,” Parilo said. “The board of trustees as well as the community advisory committee made up of local school administrators, staff and community members were very impressed with him right from the get-go.”

Swenson has a master’s degree in education from the University of North Dakota. He has another credential in education administration from California State University, Fresno.

Before going to Merced, Swenson was a teacher, an athletic director and a coach, Parilo said.

“He seems like a genuinely nice man and someone who can step into the role and take us to the next level,” Parilo said.
