The Niners celebrated tournament day with donuts and

coffee in the tent. It was August 18th and a lot of people contributed to the success of the coffee and donut social. Thanks to Stan Goodrich and Steve Berry we had enough coffee makers to do the job. Donuts always come by way of Mike Lesnewsky who picks them up early from town. The tent will be taken down early October but will reappear May of 2016.

So we’ll skip some of the winter months for coffee and donuts.

The coffee and donut social was enhance by Bill Hamilton our super duper agronomist He regaled our group with many positive things he is planning for our layout once the new clubhouse is completed.

The green by the old clubhouse will be reduced quite a bit when the Oaks in constructed so Bill envisions the area where the chipping green is will be substantially expanded with additional space devoted to short game practice. The fairways will probably be narrower due t less spray from our watering operation and you get more roll since they’ll be harder.

When asked about any new greens being replaced he was emphatic about solving any shortcomings with the kind of grass plantings used. Bill sees nothing wrong with these greens that a little TLC couldn’t help. That’s a budget helper.

The Niners thoroughly enjoyed Bill’s jovial and knowledgeable presentation. He knows what he’s doing and most of us appreciate what he’s doing to make our game more enjoyable. We sure are happy Bill’s around. Now if we can straighten him out on pin placement

Now on to the Tournament of August 18. It was a three man scramble event which means everybody hits and only one ball is scored. Sounds confusing but don’t fret, our tournament judges Mike Baca, Tom Lalli and Rick Kahil will figure it all out.

Because of space limitations we are only announcing the first place winners in the 8/18 3-Man Scramble.

Front nine – Mike Baca, Fred Huberty, Darrell Hendricks, Barna Szabo gross score 32.

Back nine – Ray Villareal, Rick Kahil,Tom Lalli, Tim Lawver with a gross score of 33.

There were so many ties for 2nd and 3rd it wasn’t worth reporting.

Looking over the first place winning teams I noticed all our judges were on the first place teams. Mike Baca, Rick Kahil and Tom Lalli made the grade. I don’t want to be suspicious, but you got to admit it’s worth looking into. And after all that complaining, Colin Phillips tied for second That a boy, Colin .And look who tied for third place, John Vogel, Courtney Tremaine and Dave Galitello, there’s a group that takes the game to a new level.

Congratulations to all our winners.

There are a couple of dates for Niner activities that we should put on our calendars. September 29th at Hideaway Park will hold our annual get together cocktail party starting around 4 or 5 pm and December 17th our General Breakfast Meeting will be held in the Oak Room at the Community Center 9AM.

Fellow Niners, we get to welcome a new member. Todd Humphrey this past month. Make sure you make him feel welcome to the best golf club in Northern California.
