Meltdown to continue with group walk

As a way to continue the momentum of the recent Nevada County Meltdown Challenge, the Wellness Center at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital is having a “Next Step” community walk at the Nevada County Fairgrounds, 9 a.m. to noon, Saturday, March 13.

Nurse Debbie Wagner said the event will be held regardless of weather, and she encouraged anyone and everyone to participate.

“Just come and enjoy the simple pleasure of walking,” Wagner said.

Walkers are asked to bring their own water but not to bring dogs, she said. Hospital volunteers will offer blood-pressure and body-fat testing.

The Meltdown was an eight-week communitywide weight-loss initiative in which area residents formed teams to shed pounds. The combined weight loss for the more than 1,000 participants was 7,509 pounds.

Meltdown organizer Carole Carson, a Wellness Page columnist for The Union, will welcome participants at 9 a.m., and for those who want it, Grass Valley Jazzercise will lead a warm-up exercise immediately after her remarks.

Parking is free, and people can enter through either the main gate or the back gate.
