Man tries to run down relative at birthday party

Marc S. McKirdy, 48, of Grass Valley was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, vandalism and driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office. He was booked into Wayne Brown Correctional Facility.

McKirdy arrived at his nephew’s birthday party on Meadowlark Lane near Peardale Road after drinking, according to Undersheriff John Trauner. He drank more and was asked to leave after getting unruly, and relatives offered to drive him home.

Next, according to Trauner, McKirdy turned belligerent, revved his pickup engine, and drove toward a relative around 8:50 p.m. He drove toward her again, and she was pulled out of the way by her husband. McKirdy’s truck destroyed the deck and struck the house, and he drove off before striking a tree near his home. He was treated at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital for a broken nose.
