Man says was robbed while hitchhiking

The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a Grass Valley-area man’s claim that he was robbed by three men who gave him a ride Wednesday night.

The man, 21 years old, said he was hitchhiking on Alta Street when three men with close-shaven heads, including one with a swastika tattoo under his right eye, gave him a ride up Alta Street but refused to stop and let him out where he asked.

After reaching Ridge Road, he said, they drove him down a dirt road and told him to get out. The three men followed, all carrying big flashlights, he claimed.

One of the three robbers said, “We can do this the easy way, or we can do this the hard way,” the man told The Union Thursday.

The man said he turned over the cash, which the three men knew about because he had told them earlier about getting money through Western Union.

The men left him on the dirt road.
