Man reportedly tortured woman for two years

An investigation into a report of domestic violence has uncovered what Grass Valley police are describing as a pattern of abuse and torture over two years.

Lawrence Everett Farrell, 23, of Grass Valley, was arrested Aug. 6, when the victim, a 24-year-old woman, reported a single occurrence of abuse.

It is The Union’s policy not to print the name of a victim of alleged sexual abuse.

Farrell has since pleaded “no contest” to charges of false imprisonment, threatening a crime and battery. He is scheduled to be sentenced Nov. 9.

Upon further investigation after Farrell’s arrest, Grass Valley police found out that Farrell had been abusing the woman since 2002, Capt. Greg Hart said. During this time, Farrell choked the woman several times and smothered her with a pillow on several occasions, Hart said.

Farrell also threatened to kill the victim and her family, according to Grass Valley police, and forced her to take part in sexual acts.

Hart said the suspect also limited, on several occasions, when the woman could use the restroom or when she could eat. He hit and slapped her, and at least once, he restrained her in a chair for more than 20 minutes, he said.
