Man jailed for alleged assault with baseball bat

A young man from Paradise was jailed Sunday morning for allegedly taking a baseball bat to two people, sending them to the hospital.

According to Nevada County Sheriff’s records, Greg J. Woodward, 23, was booked into the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility about 5:39 a.m. on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and possession of marijuana. Bail was set at $25,000 and Woodward was still incarcerated Sunday afternoon.

Grass Valley police responded to a disturbance in the 400 block of Brighton Street about 2 a.m., where two victims were reported to have been assaulted with a baseball bat, according to Sgt. Joe Matteoni.

Both victims were taken to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital by family members, Matteoni said, where officers caught up with them.

Victim Alex Felty, 31, had head trauma after three men jumped him outside the residence and struck him “multiple times in the head with a weapon,” Matteoni said. “He also had deep hand lacerations because what he had in his hand shattered” during the attack.

Felty then walked to some family members’ home and was taken to the hospital by them. Michael Wooley, 19, was also hurt and taken by relatives to the hospital.

They had both been treated and released by late Sunday afternoon.
