Man charged with abuse

A 51-year-old Grass Valley man suspected of assaulting his 82-year-old mother will be arraigned this week on elder abuse charges.

Wayne Milnes was arrested Friday afternoon after a neighbor called to report he was assaulting his mother and threatened to burn down their house on the 11000 block of Vinlee Place.

Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal said Milnes, who had reportedly been drinking, pushed his mother onto the ground as she tried to clean up some tea he knocked off of the stove.

“He then pushed a portable dishwasher into her, pinning her,” Royal said.

Suffering from abrasions on her hands and arms, the 82-year-old woman escaped and ran out the front door.

“That’s when he threatened to burn down the house if she called the sheriff’s office,” Royal said.

She went to a neighbor’s house, and the neighbor reported the incident to the sheriff’s office.

Royal said Milnes has a long history of contact with the sheriff’s office, including arrests for assault.

The night before the incident, Milnes’ mother bailed him out of jail after he was booked for being drunk in public.

Milnes was being held Monday night at the Wayne Brown Correctional Facility on $25,000 bail.
