Man booked for SJR heist

A 23-year-old Nevada City man suspected of shooting two men during a botched marijuana heist on San Juan Ridge in October was booked into Wayne Brown Correctional Facility Friday afternoon after being arrested by Michigan authorities.

Michael Brewer was booked on suspicion of shooting into an inhabited dwelling. His bail was set at $750,000.

Brewer and Barnabus O. Gray, 23, allegedly attempted to steal medical marijuana from a greenhouse on Lake City Road. The victims reported that two men allegedly shot at them while trying to steal the marijuana and again before driving away, according to sheriff’s deputies.

Gray was arraigned in December; his bail was set at $1.5 million.

Gray also faces counts stemming from an incident Nov. 28 when he failed to stop for a traffic violation near Highway 49 and Running M Drive. He later sped away and crashed, according to deputies.
