Man arrested for meth

The Nevada County Narcotics Task Force arrested a man Wednesday for felony possession of methamphetamine for sale while he was out on bail for two other felony cases, according to a statement from the county district attorney’s office.

Narcotics Sgt. Bill Smethers located over 50 grams of meth in Steven Talbott’s vehicle, the statement said.

Assistant District Attorney Anna Ferguson filed charges of possession of methamphetamine for sale with two out on bail enhancements and two prior possession of methamphetamine for sale enhancements.

Judge Julie McManus arraigned the defendant Thursday and set bail in the amount of $250,000 for this case. She also raised bail in the two prior cases to $500,000.

Attorney Greg Klecin represents the defendant in all three cases. Deputy District Attorney Oliver Pong submitted a motion to examine the source of any bail posted, which the court granted.

The court will hear the case again for pretrial conference at 1 p.m. on Aug. 14 followed by a preliminary hearing at 9 a.m. Aug. 19.
