Man airlifted after motorcycle hits truck

An Alta Sierra man was airlifted to Sutter Roseville Medical Center with possibly two broken arms and a broken leg after his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck Wednesday night on East Lime Kiln Road near Highway 49, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Dennis J. Carnevale, 58, was conscious before his helicopter evacuation, CHP Officer Rich Henry said. It appeared that the pickup driver, identified as 48-year-old south county resident Richard Taggart, wasn’t seriously hurt, as he stayed at the crash scene and talked with officers.

The crash occurred about 6:10 p.m. on East Lime Kiln Road at Buck Mountain Road.

“It sounded like a big, flat hammer coming up against the side of a vehicle,” said Mark Maves, who was working at a nearby home. “Definitely distinguishable.”

Carnevale was eastbound on East Lime Kiln at 40 to 45 mph when Taggart attempted to turn his Ford F-350 left from Buck Mountain Road, Henry said. Traffic was delayed about 30 minutes.
