Locke files for Nevada City clerk

Former Nevada City Treasurer Niel Locke announced this week he’s seeking the city clerk post.

Locke, 71, is the only candidate who has filed for the city clerk position so far. Clerk candidates have until March 7 to submit their candidacy information.

If Locke wins, he would take the position vacated by Cathy Wilcox-Barnes earlier this year. Wilcox-Barnes resigned after settling a wrongful termination lawsuit with the city for eliminating her position of office operations supervisor.

Locke served as city treasurer from 2002 to 2006 and on the city planning commission for two stints in the 80s and 90s. He’s a founding owner of Java John’s and Posh Nosh, but is no longer involved in either of the businesses.
