Local voting officials to update counts

Nevada County election officials anticipate updating their vote totals by Friday with vote-by-mail ballots and provisional ballots cast on election day.

The county election’s office has about 6,741 ballots yet to process. Those include 2,800 vote-by mail ballots delivered on election day June 3, 1,300 ballots cast by U.S. mail and office delivery combined. Three hundred thirty provisional ballots were cast and about 500 ballots were damaged or unable to be read by the scanner and must now be reproduced before being scanned and added to the results, according to a county elections release.

The election’s office also is conducting its canvass of the vote total and once that is complete county will manually recount 1 percent of the vote and certify the results.

Anyone interested in observing the county’s post-election process can call 530-265-1298 or 888-395-1298 for more information.
