Ryne Haas, percussionist and 2012 Nevada Union High School graduate, earned a gold medal marching with Blue Devils B Drum and Bugle Corps.

Blue Devils B won the Open Class World Championship for DCI: Drum Corps International at their Open Class competition Aug. 4 and 5 in Michigan City, Ind.

They continued on to place 15th in the World Class Competition Aug. 7-9 in Indianapolis.

This is the highest finish ever for an Open Class Corps in World Class Competition.

Blue Devils Drum and Bugle Corps were founded in 1957 and are based in Concord. They are 150 marching members strong. This was their fourth world championship.

Blue Devils A Corps won the World Competition with a record-breaking score.

Haas marched with Nevada Union Marching Band for three years, and the NU Drumline for four years.

He was drum captain for NU.

Haas also played snare drum for eNVision Performing Arts in Reno for two years and recently drummed and competed with the Sacramento State Drumline.

He attends Yuba College and will continue as a percussion instructor for Nevada Union this year.
