need treatment

I seldom read the Sunday edition of The Union, but a party provided me a copy of the edition of June 24, recognizing my interest in forest management.

The edition contained an excellent Other Voices, “Managing Our Forests,” written by Tim Feller, Joanne Drummond and Steve Eubanks. With the extreme build-up of fuels in our local area, your readers need to understand the importance of a forest products infrastructure.

The costs of cleaning up dead forests in the Lake Arrowhead area, after the October 2003 “Old” fire was astronomical, as most of the trees removed went to landfills. Utilizing thinned wood for chips or lumber saves hundreds to thousands of dollars an acre – tax dollars. Our local forests need treatment, lest we experience catastrophic fire such as at Lake Tahoe.
