Local elementary school hosts Farm Day

Students at Nevada City Elementary School celebrated their annual Farm Day Thursday, with FFA students from Nevada Union High School showing farm animals at the elementary school playground and educating the children about agriculture.

“The children got to get on a tractor and also went on a hayride,” said NCE Principal Teena Corker. “The FFA students talked to them about careers in agriculture.”

The farm animals showed at the event included a horse, cows, goats, pigs, sheep and chickens, Corker said.

All 194 kindergartners through second-graders at the school on Main Street visited the booths and the animals throughout the day by rotation, she added.
