Local Democrats host annual picnic

The Nevada County Democratic Central Committee is holding its annual picnic for local Democrats on Sunday at Condon Park in Grass Valley. The event begins at 1 p.m. and features music, games and speakers. The central committee will be serving barbecued tri-tip, chicken, corn, beans and salad.

State Sen. Joe Dunn will be the featured speaker of the day. Dunn, D-Garden Grove, is known for his investigative work in revealing Enron scandals. State Assembly District 3 candidate Robert Woods and state Senate District 1 candidate Kristine McDonald will also be in attendance. The Central Committee has officially endorsed three local candidates for local offices, and they will all be there, as well. These candidates include Bruce Conklin, candidate for the District 3 county supervisor seat; businessman Dean Williams, candidate for the Grass Valley City Council; and Olivia Diaz, a candidate for the District 1 supervisor seat.

The Democratic Central Committee will have a regular meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at Democratic Party Headquarters in Grass Valley, and general issues will be addressed including fund-raising, precinct walking and future events such as the trip to the Nugget Casino on Sept. 18.
