Internal Revenue Service trains local cops

Nevada County law enforcement received training this week from a special agent with the IRS on how to more effectively investigate financial crimes.

“The information we received from this training will help us prosecute commercial growers and drug dealers to the fullest extent the law allows,” Nevada County District Attorney Cliff Newell said. “These kinds of investigations can be especially helpful in cases that involve asset forfeiture.”

Special Agent Rick Adams, criminal investigator from the Internal Revenue Service, hosted the training July 11 at the Nevada County Sheriff’s Department. Officers from the Grass Valley Police Department, Nevada County Sheriff’s Department, Sierra County Sheriff’s Department and the Truckee Police Department attended the five-hour class.
