Living for today

About a year ago, I read a letter addressed to The Union from a lady named Eileen Hawkes who had found happiness and fun friends in the Widowed Persons Association here in our community.

I am also a widow who was living in the past and needed a way to start living today and to look forward to the future. So, I took a gamble and said to myself, “Why not give it a try?” I did!

Taking her advice has turned my life around. I found friends to play cards with and go to the movies. I have monthly luncheons, breakfasts and dinners at various restaurants to attend, and I just returned from a cruise to Mexico with 10 of us.

I was surprised that there were a number of men in the group as I was under the impression it was only the women who lived the longest.

I strongly recommend that those widowed persons out there consider joining this group and learn to laugh again.
