Patron of the Week at Pre-School Storytime, Madelyn Helling Library. Patron of the Week highlights different library patrons each week who participate in library programs and services offered at the six Nevada County Library locations.

Tell me about yourself.

Michal Rainsbarger is the mother of daughter Nolan, who is just one month shy of turning three years old. Michal has lived in the area for 13 years and is just starting to attend Madelyn Helling’s Preschool Storytime as Nolan is getting close to the suggested three to six age range for this program.

What brings you to the library today?

Michal and Nolan started coming to Nevada County Libraries soon after Nolan was born. Today they are at the Madelyn Helling Library for Preschool Storytime which includes three or four stories, several songs, and craft activities every week. Although Michal and Nolan are new to Preschool Storytime, they are familiar with the Nevada County Library’s children’s programs. Before participating in Preschool Storytime, Michal and Nolan attended Mother Goose, for children ages zero to three years, at Grass Valley’s Royce Branch.

Why is the library important to you?

Michal loves bringing Nolan to the children’s programs at the County Libraries because it is “another outlet for creativity and learning” that Nolan really enjoys. For example, the songs that Nolan has learned at Mother Goose and Preschool Storytime are sung every day at home and Nolan won’t let her parents take down the picture of the moon she created at Preschool Storytime a few weeks ago.

What is your favorite memory you’ve made at the Nevada County Libraries?

Michal’s favorite memory made at the Nevada County Libraries was seeing Nolan become more confident at these programs. Michal remembers when Nolan first ventured off of her lap and to the front of story time after three or four visits. She’s enjoyed watching Nolan become increasingly comfortable taking part in the different activities and interacting with the other kids, as well as seeing the enjoyment Nolan gets from participating in programs like Mother Goose and Preschool Storytime.
