Last fling for Summer Nights

At the most recent Summer Nights in Nevada City, Ariya Herman did what two-year-old girls are supposed to do at street fairs.

She got her face painted. With a butterfly.

“Even though she is tired, she wanted face painting,” her father, Matt Herman of Grass Valley, said. “She will probably crash with it on tonight.”

The final fling for Nevada City’s Summer Nights comes up this week and includes a line-up of major local talent.

Jazz singer Lorraine Gervais and jazz trombonist Ludi Hinrichs take the limelight for the weekly Wednesday summertime event, along with the Dylan Guitar Trio, John Girton and David Ayala.

The Troupe Al Ama belly dancers will perform at York and Commercial streets.

Other attractions include a growers market, an artists’ alley and around 50 craft and food vendors.

The fair is 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Broad Street. Park for free at the Rood Center on Highway 49, and walk or take the shuttle to the top of Broad Street. Cost for the shuttle is $5 round-trip for adults, free for children under 12.
