Land Trust grant request advanced

Nevada County supervisors unanimously voted Tuesday to approve a $14,700 grant request by the Nevada County Land Trust to extend the popular Litton Trail.

The Land Trust plans to make it easier for trail users to reach Ridge Road by laying down gravel on a 0.6-mile section of trail from Sierra College to Via Colina, which connects with Ridge Road.

The Land Trust is seeking the $14,700 grant from the Northern Sierra Air Quality Management District. The grant would only pay for gravel, not construction; Land Trust volunteers would put the gravel in place.

Supervisors Bruce Conklin, Elizabeth Martin and Peter Van Zant spoke positively about the grant request. Then the board voted 5-0 to endorse it.

The Land Trust won’t learn until June whether it gets the grant.
