Lake of the Pines resident in ICU

A 39-year-old man from the Lake of the Pines is in the intensive care unit of the Sutter Roseville Medical Center today after being flown there in a helicopter that landed on the Lake of the Pines golf course late Tuesday, officials said.

A California Highway Patrol helicopter landed on the golf course near the man’s residence, in southern Nevada County, and flew him to the hospital, county Sheriff Keith Royal said. Some Lake of the Pines residents witnessed the incident and informed The Union.

The man had stabbed himself in the chest with a 6-inch steak knife Tuesday evening, Royal said.

“We got a 911 call around 7:30 p.m. regarding an individual who had self-inflicted injuries,” Royal said. “He was depressed and had been drinking over what he thought was a breakup with his girlfriend.”

The man lived with his 40-year-old girlfriend, Royal said.

The sheriff’s office did not disclose the name of the victim, so details of his condition were unavailable from Sutter Roseville.
