Lake of the Pines furniture maker hearing switch to Aug. 13

An appeal hearing for a Lake of the Pines veteran who makes furniture in his garage has been moved to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, before the board of the homeowners association.

The hearing was originally scheduled for 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, before the association’s covenants committee.

The veteran, Dennis Kocher, said he was notified about the switch in date and time for the hearing via an email Saturday from Angius & Terry LLP, attorneys for the Lake of the Pines homeowners association. In the email, attorney Mary Catherine Garcia said she would be sending Kocher a separate explanation for the reason for switching to a board hearing.

Kocher, who said he makes the furniture to donate to military families at Beale Air Force base, said he suspected the reason was “a delay tactic (by the association) in order to gather more information, but unfortunately there is none.”

He said he makes the furniture as a hobby and earns no profit on any sales of any items. Kocher is appealing a July 11 notice from the association that claims he was operating a business and disrupting neighbors with noise and fumes and ordering him to shut down.

“I do this as an act of love, not a profitable business,” he said.
