To host families, others
We would like to give accolades to some of the most generous and hospitable families in our county. For three weeks 17 families participated in a cultural exchange program involving French high school students. These families opened their homes and their hearts to students who were here to expand their knowledge of our culture.
These families are from many different backgrounds and family structures. All of the families displayed remarkable willingness to share their home, time and resources with their new “son” or “daughter.” As we said our tearful “au voirs” recently, it was obvious more than just housing had occurred.
We want to thank all of our World Exchange families for the hospitality and love shown to these young men and women. You made it so rewarding for all of us.
In addition we would like to thank The Union, Rotary Clubs of Nevada County, Ghidotti Early College, Bear River and Nevada Union high schools for their support.

To Grass valley police
Thank you to GVPD for their support and loyalty in helping me in dealing with a domestic dispute that occurred recently. They were understanding and helpful in giving me the resources that I needed in dealing with the situation.
I felt safe and in good hands. It’s a shame that hours are being cut because of the financial deficit. The police department is here to protect and serve and without them, the city would be left in a chaotic state. I used to be one that doubted local law enforcement and their intentions, but now I realize they are here just trying to make our town a safe and secure place.
Keep up the good work!
To helpers of United Way BBQ
Many thanks to The Union for covering the United Way BBQ recently. It was one of the nicest events I’ve ever been to. The band “Sols” was fantastic and set the tone for the evening. The event was a high statement of our community generosity.
Everything was donated, the space by the Holiday Inn Express, the many raffle prizes, the good food by businesses, agencies and individuals and Sols played for free! New United Way President Rich Bulotti, Don Daniels, past president and their team were cooking up some great barbecue too!
Many thanks from Sierra Family Medical Clinic and all the other partner agencies who benefit from United Way to all of you in our generous community!

Thanks to the troops
coming home from Iraq
Even though there are still approximately 50,000 American troop advisors in Iraq as of Aug. 31, 2010, we all in the states need to say the best prayers of thanks we know that our friends and neighbors in the American military have come home. Thank you brave ladies and gentlemen for your service and sacrifice and to paraphrase Rock ‘n’ Roll artist Chuck Berry, we are very glad to have you back in the USA.
