Kids fishing day at packer lake

From 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday, July 19 families are invited to the annual Packer Lake Kids Fishing Day.

Packer Lake is located in the Lakes Basin area on the Yuba River Ranger District of the Tahoe National Forest. Fish Day is sponsored by the Sierra County Fish and Game Commission, Tahoe National Forest, and California Department of Fish and Game.

Besides fishing, personnel from the Tahoe National Forest will have several educational activities that are ongoing during the event.

Everyone’s favorite is the fish print T-shirt activity. Bring your own T-shirt to create a masterpiece. This year, there are fish that have been tagged with different colored tags. Money will be awarded to the child that catches a tagged fish.

Hot dogs and sodas will be sold at the event or bring your own picnic lunch. Limited fishing gear is available, so participants are encouraged to bring their own equipment and bait.

Fishing licenses are required, but not available locally, for all who are 16 and over. Dogs and boats are not recommended during the event.

Volunteers will be available around the lake and at the registration table to assist with any directions or questions. For more information call Marilyn Tierney at the North Yuba Ranger Station, (530) 288-3231.
