Judges to award drug treatment scholarship

The Nevada County Superior Court judges are scheduled to award the annual $1,000 John H. Darlington Scholarship – created to support drug and alcohol treatment – to a Grass Valley woman later this month.

This year’s recipient is Christina Frye of Grass Valley, who plans to obtain a degree in drug and alcohol addiction treatment from the Breining Institute College for the Advanced Study of Addictive Disorders.

Nevada County judges established the scholarship to honor former Judge John Darlington, who retired from the bench in 2005 and was instrumental in integrating the county’s alternative courts.

The scholarship will be awarded at noon June 23 at the courthouse in Nevada City and the public is invited.
