JC Penney hit by thieves

The JC Penney department store in Grass Valley was burglarized late Saturday night.

It was not clear Monday whether the thieves hid inside the women’s section of the store and waited for it to close or if they simply broke in, according to the Grass Valley Police Department.

Police were alerted to the burglary at 10:30 p.m. after the store’s alarm went off. When they arrived, they found that the front and lobby doors of the women’s section of the store had been shattered, as well as the jewelry cabinet, Sgt. Joe Matteoni said.

The majority of the jewelry had been stolen, he said.

“Right now, we don’t have much of anything (evidence),” Matteoni said. “Just broken doors and glass.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call Grass Valley Police Detective Clint Bates at 477-4600.
